Comics

In the field of comic strip, Glénat and Vents d’Ouest today represent great names well known to all their followers.
Six collections make up the core of Glénat’s production :
Grafica, which puts aestheticism and fiction to the fore ; Vécu, devoted to historical comic strip ; Tchô! which brings a young generation of authors together round comic strip aimed at youth ; Bulle Noire, reserved for whodunits ; Loge noire, devoted to esoteric adventure ; Carrément BD, a new collection which rethinks the norms of traditional comic strip.
But, equally, Glénat’s name has become synonymous with Manga : the first publisher to have implanted this style in France, Glénat is today no. 1 in this field, thanks to their exacting requirements of publishing choice, a strong partnership with Japanese publishers and a catalogue structured in a clear and readable way for its adherents :
Shojo for girls, Shonen for boys, Seinen for adults.
Finally, Glénat is developing 2 special collections related to its graphic know-how :
Glénat J, a collection of sumptuously illustrated books aimed at young children ; Glénat Humour, which brings together the illustrations of a series of well-known artists (Serre, Blachon, Pessin…)
At Vents d’Ouest, the catalogue is structured around five great collections: Fantastique (where one can find Régis Loisel’s famous Peter Pan), Humour (with the Guides en BD series), Integra, and the new-born collections : Equinoxe (long tales, forceful graphics in a framework of linear narrative) and Turbulences (resolutely modern thrillers)...

Today the Glénat Group is the leading independant player in comic strip in Europe and France (with almost 25% of the comic strip market in 2003). Sales for Titeuf now number more than 10 million albums, and Dragon Ball more than 14 million. The esoteric series (Le Triangle Secret, Décalogue, Le 3 e Testament,...) reconfirm their commercial success on the appearance of each new album : with almost 40 titles published to date and more than 2 million albums sold, they constitute from now on one of the “safe assets” of the catalogue. Other safe assets: Joe Bar Team, Peter Pan, Pacush Blues or Les Guides en BD through Vents d’Ouest; Les Maîtres de l’Orge, Mafalda, Les 7 Vies de l‘épervier, Sambre, Akira, or Gunnm, through Glénat…
